Sims engineering systems ltd have an in depth knowledge of hot air peening machines(hot air cold stake, or hot air welders) and
can design special purpose machines around this technology. As we are not tied to any one welding/joint technology we would not build a machine of this type unless we were sure it proved the best welding solution
for your application.
Hot air peening is done by first melting the plastic with a hot air nozzle then forming the plastic with a cold former. This is
useful if you want to weld plastic parts to metal and maintain a tight joint(ultrasonics is not suitable here because the welding horn would be damaged if it was to come into contact with the metal part of the job).
The picture below is of a hot air welder for welding plastic brackets to a metal base plate for an automobile airbag. This
particular machine also had interchangeable tooling for doing right hand and left hand drive variants.
